Just an update on Ron’s prostate cancer diagnosis

Thursday, February 04, 2010
Hi Everyone,

Just an update on Ron’s prostate cancer diagnosis. Today we met with Dr. Laughlin at Brigham & Women’s Hospital. He was excellent, kind, caring and took a lot of time explaining that the cancer that Ron has is intermediate in nature, not aggressive and not slow growing either. That he will need to have an intervention and watchful waiting is not an option because of his age.

He believes that the cancer is confined to the prostate and has been caught early. Ron will be having an MRI of his prostate on 2/19/10 and a follow-up with Dr. Laughlin on 2/24/10. At that point we will have either an operative date or some other treatment plan.

We’ll keep everyone posted. Thank you all for the support, phone calls and prayers.

We will be leaving for our cruise tomorrow and as Dr. Laughlin suggested we will get some sun and enjoy ourselves.

Love You All, Debbie & Ronnie

PERSONAL NOTE

We would like to take this opportunity to update you on our planned upcoming MotorHome / Cruise. The original plan was to drive to Florida, cruise for one week on the Oasis of the Seas, then spend the remaining time in Florida out of the cold northeast weather until March.

As we all know the best plans can be interrupted by unexpected events. In my case I received a diagnosis of prostate cancer on January 4th 2010. I have spoken with two physicians who have assured me that the situation is not emergent and that we should take our cruise anyway. Our RV trip is cancelled until we know what the outcome of my surgery will be.

I have an appointment with a third physician in Boston on February 4th (third opinion and most probably the surgeon) and will be leaving on the 5th for Florida – cruising on the 6th.

Deb is not hot on taking the cruise and wants me to have surgery as soon as possible. She insists that if the Doc in Boston wants to do the surgery asap then we will forfeit the cruise. This is the problem cruise because we used our RCCL credit card rewards and the cruise cannot be cancelled, rebooked or transferred to anyone else. We will try to leave the diagnosis and worries on shore.

I’ll keep you posted.
Always, r0n & Debbie
